Hi, I’m Pauline.

There is Hope.

My name is Dr. Pauline Waweru. They call me a therapist, healer, teacher, and mother. However, all these titles only become meaningful to me when I touch other people’s lives in a personal and authentic way. This applies to my own family, my students, and to each of my clients.

Relationships thrive when open and collaborative.

When I chose the word Gemstone for my counseling services, I was inspired by the special properties of each unique gem. A gemstone is a piece of mineral crystal which, in cut and polished form, is used to make jewelry or other adornments. These minerals are usually chosen for their beauty and durability and hold deeper symbolic meaning. Thinking about you as a client, I envision your special gemstone properties or characteristics. In many cultures, gemstones are symbolic of stability, strength, balance, courage, eloquence and a clear mind. Wearing a gemstone is believed to help an individual increase self-esteem and calm the body and mind. For example, agate symbolizes grounding, nourishment and stability. Amazonite symbolizes truth, harmony and peace. Apache represents healing grief, grounding and protection.

Similar to therapy, critical to the making and shaping of a gemstone is focus, time, and space.

Let me relate this to my core values as a therapist:

  • I will meet you where you are, and guide you toward a more functional life that is best for you.
  • I will create an environment that will allow you to pursue your therapy goals at a self-determined pace.
  • I will develop an individualized plan collaboratively with you allowing you to identify your unique goals and objectives.
  • I use the example of a gemstone to allow you to see how you can heal from any emotional issue that might hinder your personal growth.

Whether you are dealing with depression, anxiety, grief, transitional issues, or addiction, I am here to work with you. I acknowledge that the purpose of therapy is unique to each individual and, for this reason, I will partner with you as you identify your personal goals. While some begin therapy with a specific issue in mind, other may just feel stuck or confused and unsure what they really want in therapy.

I will support you to identify your personal goals and work with you to overcome life challenges.

I have over 10 years of experience in both mental health and substance abuse treatment and have worked in community, hospital, and psychiatric settings. I am a doctoral-trained licensed therapist with diverse experience working with both adults and adolescents. I have a Bachelor’ Degree in Education, a Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology and a PhD in Psychology, Expected April 2018 (ABD). I also have a Masters Certificate in Global Mental Health (Trauma and Recovery, Harvard Medical School, CE).
